12 month vs 6 month Auto Policy: What to know

12 month vs 6 month Auto Policy: What to know

When it’s time to renew your auto insurance policy, there are things to consider or be aware of.   If you are shopping for a new quote, make sure that the quote matches the policy term you’re looking for.   Sometimes a customer may get a lower quote and not realize the term is a 6 month policy rather than an annual 12 month policy.

Choosing an annual policy comes with some advantages.

  • The obvious is that you only have to think about it once a year!
  • When rates are more volatile, you’re better off getting “locked in” so you don’t have increases more often.
  • If you don’t pay your policy in full, having an annual policy also means the cost of financing it doesn’t change.

Some drivers who have points for accidents or tickets that may be “falling off soon” may benefit from a shorter 6 month policy but overall choosing an annual 12 month policy is the safer, more convenient bet!
